Helping Your Child Succeed in Elementary School
Elementary school is a time of growth, learning, and building strong character. At Salah Tawfik Elementary & Middle School, we believe your child’s success comes from a team effort between home and school. Here are simple ways you can help your child thrive academically, emotionally, and spiritually.
1. Build Good Habits at Home
- Homework & Study Time: Set a regular time and quiet place for homework every day. Keep it free from distractions.
- Daily Reading: Read together for at least 20 minutes. Visit the library to make reading fun.
- Healthy Lifestyle: Ensure 9–11 hours of sleep, balanced meals, and daily physical activity.

2. Encourage a Positive Learning Attitude
- Praise Effort: Focus on how hard they work, not just grades.
- Make Learning Real: Connect school lessons to daily life — cooking for math, maps for geography.
- Embrace Mistakes: Treat mistakes as chances to learn and try again.
3. Partner with the School
- Stay Connected: Attend conferences, read school updates, and keep in touch with teachers.
- Ask Helpful Questions: Find out your child’s strengths and where they need support.
4. Support Emotional Well-being
- Listen with Care: Ask about their day and listen to their feelings.
- Teach Self-Advocacy: Help them learn how to ask for help and speak respectfully.
5. Nurture Success through Islamic Values
- Tarbiyah at Home: Reinforce good manners, honesty, and compassion.
- Learning as Worship: Remind them that seeking knowledge is a way to please Allah.
- Work Together: Make home a place where faith and learning grow side by side.
By building good habits, encouraging effort, staying involved, and connecting learning to faith, you give your child the best chance for success in school and life. At STEMS, we are proud to be your partner in this journey.
