Helping Your Child Build Good Homework Habits
Homework is more than schoolwork — it teaches responsibility, time management, and independence. At Salah Tawfik Elementary & Middle School, we believe home and school must work together so every child can succeed.
Here’s how you can make homework time easier and more productive:
1. Set Up a Homework Space
- Choose a quiet, well-lit spot (kitchen table, desk, or corner).
- Keep it free from TV, games, or unrelated devices.
- Have supplies ready — pencils, paper, crayons, erasers.

2. Create a Routine
- Pick the best time for your child — right after school or after a short break.
- Keep the same time every day, even if there’s no homework (use it for reading).
- Use a timer for younger kids to keep focus.
3. Be a Supportive Guide
- Sit nearby, but don’t do the work for them.
- Ask questions that help them think (“What did the teacher say about this?”).
- Praise effort and persistence, not just correct answers.
4. Encourage Independence
- Let them make mistakes and learn from them.
- Break big projects into smaller steps.
- Teach that challenges help the brain grow stronger.
5. Keep It Positive
- Offer small rewards for completing homework (stickers, extra playtime).
- Celebrate successes — even small ones.
- Stay calm and positive to set the right tone.
6. Link Homework to Islamic Values
- Remind them that seeking knowledge is an act of worship.
- Connect hard work with patience and discipline — important Islamic virtues.
With patience, consistency, and support, homework can become a positive habit that helps your child succeed in school and in life. At STEMS, we are your partners in making learning a joyful journey.
