Helping Children Focus Without Too Much Screen Time
Today’s world is full of screens — iPads, games, and phones. Technology can help children learn, but too much can harm attention, creativity, and social skills. At Salah Tawfik Elementary & Middle School, we believe in balance — good academics, strong character, and healthy technology use.
Here are simple ways to help your child focus and grow without relying on screens:

1. Encourage Hands-On Play
- Pray all five daily prayers on time — let your child see you stop everything when the Adhan is called.
- Show joy after Salah — make Tasbih or Du’a and invite your child to join.
- Talk positively about Salah and how it helps you in life.
2. Spend Time in Nature
- Go for walks and notice what you see, hear, and smell.
- Start a small garden, even in a pot, to teach patience and responsibility.
- Visit parks regularly to refresh the mind and improve focus.
3. Read and Tell Stories
- Read together every day — even 10 minutes makes a difference.
- Encourage pretend play with costumes or blankets for role-playing.
- Share stories from Islamic history to inspire values and imagination.
4. Find Hobbies
- Try creative hobbies like drawing, painting, or writing.
- Learn practical skills like cooking or baking together.
- Play games like chess or puzzles that build thinking skills.
5. Make a Family Screen Plan
- Have tech-free zones (dinner table, bedrooms, car rides).
- Agree on screen time rules for everyone.
- Show good habits by limiting your own screen use.
By offering fun, real-world activities, you can help your child stay focused, curious, and confident. At STEMS, we are here to support you in raising balanced, creative, and faith-centered children.
