STEMS Islamic Studies Program

STEMS Islamic Studies program uses “I Love Islam” and  “Learning Islam” series as a core curriculum text for all grades. The series focuses on the following:

Islam for Life: the series provides what our students need in one volume format. The books present the basics of Islam in the attractive and engaging manner in the Western context. This program, by design, introduces Islam to young Muslims through authentic and state of the art educational and Islamic Tarbiyah methodologies.” Islam for Life” means:

  • Islam is a way of life and not only a religion,
  • Islam provides a better meaning for life,
  • Islam provides its followers a content and happy life in this world and the Hereafter,
  • Islam is a lifetime commitment.

  1. Tarbiyah: One of the most important aspects of Islamic education is Tarbiyah or gradual transformation of our students to be the best Muslims. We, as Islamic Studies teachers believe that our responsibility does not end at simply instructing students on Islamic concepts. Rather, this responsibility extends to the students learn, understand, internalize the concepts and become motivated to implement and live them in daily life. The program’s approach to teaching and learning is the well known classical theory of student learning “The Blooms Taxonomy”. The six constructs of taxonomy are:
  2. Knowledge: Arrange, define, duplicate, label, list, memorize, name, order, recognize, relate, recall, repeat, reproduce state.
  3. Comprehension: classify, describe, discuss, explain, express, identify, indicate, locate, recognize, report, restate, review, select, and translate.
  4. Application: apply, choose, demonstrate, dramatize, employ, illustrate, interpret, operate, practice, schedule, sketch, solve, use and write.
  5. Analysis: analyze, appraise, calculate, categorize, compare, contrast, criticize, differentiate, discriminate, distinguish, examine, experiment, question, and test.
  6. Synthesis: arrange, assemble, collect, compose, construct, create, design, develop, formulate, manage, organize, plan, prepare, propose, setup and write.
  7. Evaluation: Appraise, argue, assess, attach, choose, compare, defend, estimate, judge, predict, rate, core select, support, value and evaluate.
